The Pilates method, or simply Pilates, is a system of physical and mental conditioning developed in the early 20th century by Joseph Hubertus Pilates.

Pilates covers the art and science of human movement and in that sense involves 

scientific knowledge such as biomechanics and kinesiology as well as traditional practices such as yoga. In this way, dynamism and muscular strength are combined with mental control, breathing and relaxation.

 

The method focuses on the development of internal muscles to maintain body balance and give stability and firmness to the spine, which is why it is widely used as therapy in rehabilitation and, for example, to prevent and cure back pain. It is practiced all over the world and owes a part of its increasing popularity to the fact that it is practiced by famous people from the world of music, cinema, dance or sports.

Pilates not only bridges the gap between mind and body, between daily life and optimal performance, between rehabilitation and healthy movement; but it allows to expand the potential of many aspects of life, offering solutions to those who suffer from disability of movement as well as high-performance athletes. It is a beneficial practice for an 11-year-old boy as well as for an adult over 80 years of age and motivates both men and women.
